Download the free iNaturalist App on Google Play or Apple App Store! iNaturalist is a social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn more about nature.

Whether there is a need for baseline data to support a conservation program, project, or just out of curiosity, we often wonder about the various lifeforms around us. iNaturalist serves as a wonderful and engaging tool that allows us to have some fun and connect more deeply with the natural world from our cabins.

Goals of iNaturalist

Primarily to connect people to nature - biodiversity is everywhere! We aim to help people understand the science of natural history. Connect people to each other and build community around nature. Collect biodiversity data for science, management and conservation.

iNaturalist and the National Forest Homeowners

NFH is dedicated to educating its members and others in sound science stewardship of our forests. Permittees often have an unrivaled knowledge of the public lands their cabins occupy - frequently spanning multiple generations. Through iNaturalist, photos are turned into data: Every observation contributes to biodiversity science, from the rarest butterfly to the most common backyard weed. iNaturalist shares your findings with scientific data repositories like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility {GBIF} to help scientists find and use your data. All you have to do is observe!
